Barbarian Scout

Scout – A single solider or team sent out ahead of a main force to gather info about the enemy by gathering info or intelligence especially by reconnoitering. Typically more elite teams, or individuals able to operate efficiently alone or with smaller numbers due to their increased knowledge of combat and survival skills.

This  be the start of the new Scout catagory .

The scout catagory will be content based around wilderness skills such as survival and preparedness, tracking, wilderness medicine, and other topics having to do with non urban environments.

Scout topics will also  be posted under the barbarian tradecraft instagram and will have its own section on substack for the full length articles and as usual will show up to different degrees on all other Modern Barbarian accounts/pages.

Barbarian K9s: Raising Dogs

This is the first article for a new series/section of articles I am going to be doing around dogs and specifically working K9s of all kinds. You will occasionally see articles covering dogs, their training, health, as well as philosophy surrounding them and how they integrate into our Modern Barbarian lives. I used to run an other account specifically for this topic but I learned one thing before I shut it down. The dog and dog training community is second only to the horse show community in the levels of its toxicity so I will post this regularly but not as frequently as other topics.

The foundation of how I raise dogs is the same general idea that I use for health and nutrition decisions. What is the most natural and most inline with genetics, or natural behavior. Did humans evolve drinking sugar ladened sodas or chemically laced and manufactured food like products? No, they ate whole foods they found in nature.

From that foundation this is a rough philosophy around raising dogs.

Nutrition

I am a big fan of raw feeding. The healthiest dogs I have ever had I have fed raw. They have far less health problems than any of the kibble fed dogs we have owned. The same problems we have in healthcare with food companies funding and sponsoring medical schools and health organizations you see in veterinary medicine. Dog food companies fund vet schools and give kick backs to vet clinics that sell their food.

Feeding raw is much more than just throwing burger in a bowl for your dog so make sure you do your research

Forever Dog – A great book that covers dog health and nutrition as well as the dog food industry. Forever Dog Book

Barf diet – Raw feeding primer. Barf Diet Book

Now I do feed raw and I have some dogs that I feed kibble by following the check list in her book to make it the best kibble that I can but I would feed all my dogs raw if I could.

Breeding

Breeding has gotten a bad name in recent years with all of the animals in shelters and I do get it and if you are only looking for a pet/companion dog you 100% should go to a shelter. Plenty of dogs there will bond harder and and longer than any dog you have ever seen and would make great companions.

But when you need a working dog, your only real option is breeding or buying from a breeder. You have a much higher chance of getting the kind of dog you need than if you roll the dice at shelter. With that you have to vet your breeders and make sure that you are supporting good responsible breeders. Any responsible breeder will let you meet or see the parents, will tell you how many litters a year they breed as well as their general breeding philosophy. If they don’t want to tell you anything, you should look for a new breeder. Just because they are AKC registered does not mean that they are healthy dogs or that the breeders are responsible.

Closed book pure bread only breeding is horrible for dogs health. It limits the gene pool and long term will degrade the over all health and quality of breeds as no new genetic material is ever introduced into the gene pool. To that end I am a firm believer in strong breeding which in short means that you occasionally breed dogs into your lines that are not the same breed but have the same working characteristics and traits that you are looking for. This produces healthier, and longer living dogs.

To this end I am not a fan of AKC or any kennel clubs as they go directly against this philosophy as well as breed for looks and not working ability which results in unhealthy breeds. The german shepherd being one of the recent many breeds that has been run into the ground health and work wise because

Training

I firmly believe that the owner of the dog needs to do the training of the dog. Many trainers will work with the owners and tech them how to do it properly. This is because a bond forms through the training that you just don’t get if you send the dog off to a trainer for ti to be done for you. You also don’t learn how to maintain the training properly and the training will degrade and go away eventually.

No one training system will work on every dog out there. Just like humans every dog is different. So where do you start?

How does a mother dog raise(train) their pups? With corrections. She growls at them, mouths them, and if needed snaps at or bites them, usually in the scruff. The closest a human can get to this behavior while maintaining the safety of them and the dog is a pinch collar and verbal correction.

I train using a balanced approach of marker and reward training and corrections either verbally or with a pinch collar depending on what the dog and their temperament requires. Training collars and devices get a bad wrap because of people who have no clue how to use them and people who have never trained a dog in their life weighing in.

Marker training comes in because we know dogs respond to rewards as well even though it may or may not be completely inline evolutionarily. Though if you use only this method you often get dogs that wont listen unless you have treats in your hand. So you need to balance it out. Marker training is also where I start with puppies. Because at 8 wks old building a bond is more important than spot on training.

As they grow, the bond strengthens, and their temperament and personality develops and comes out more you can start to determine what the specific dog requires in terms of training methodology.

All their training starts on a leash, and then ounce their training progresses I move them to a long line. This especially is beneficial for recall training as they get more freedom but you can still remain in control so they cannot ignore the recall command. Then once I am firmly confident in their recall they progress to off leash training.

You have to Know what your dog is capable of

Not just training wise but physically. A corgey is not able of clearing a 6 foot wall no matter how much training you do. You also need to clearly communicate your expectations. This doesn’t mean explaining it to the dog. This is done through consistency. If your dog is not to get on the couch, then you can’t let him on the couch some times. If they are to bark at intruders or warn you of danger you can’t correct them when they do.

Sit down and think about what you want from the dog and think about how you and your family will need to act in order to foster that behavior. If you want the dog to warn of danger but your wife yells at it every time it barks its going to get confused.

The most important thing when it comes to corrections is to never correct the dog of it doesn’t understand the command in the first place. If you are training Sit for the first time, and you correct it when the dog doesn’t know sit your not accomplishing anything.

Great books on training your own dog are

Team dog – Written by seal team dog trainer Mike Ritland. Team Dog Book

Team dog online – Mike Ritland’s online training resource. https://teamdog.pet/

Fortress k9 online – Another online training resource from fortress K9. http://k9academyonline.com/

Dog man book series – These are the two that cover the most of his training philosophy. I do not agree with everything in there but a lot of it is good information.

Dog Man 1

Dog Man 2

Conclusion

That is the basic foundation and philosophy of how I raise dogs. The specifics will change slightly depending on what disciplines or combinations of them each dog is doing.

Barbarian War Bands

Your tribe needs a war band, your raiders. Back in the day empires and tribes would raid each other for resources, now your war band needs to do business. It is not uncommon for homesteaders to want to sell eggs, or vegetables, or other products that the homestead produces. While there is nothing wrong with this, you are not going to be able to sell enough to make ends meet in this day and age. It can certainly be part of your tribes income if you or some members wen the homesteading route, (which I think we all need to even if its only for producing your own food. Anything you can make your self frees up capital for other things.

But if you ignore the digital landscape and all the business opportunities that it can offer, your not setting your self up for success. There is so many different products and business models that you can set up online that require very little input once they get going that they can make money for you while you do other things. This is called passive income, and while its never truly passive, you can get money coming in from relatively low amounts of work allowing you to have other time to make more money in other ways.

When you have multiple people doing this you multiply the income streams and thus the potential income for your tribe. This is where the War band comes in

War band vs your brotherhood

While your brotherhood should be more exclusive, your war band need not be. There were shield maidens in the past and now there is women in business now. Your brothers can certainly be in your war band, and if they are business minded they should be but other members of your tribe can participate as well even the children. As long as they are in the tribe, and business minded, or even if they are not but they are bringing in significant income for the tribe. They can and should be in this group. They could be a lawyer but work for a firm instead of their own. It doesn’t mean they can’t be you or your tribes lawyer. Specialist such as this could and should be part of your tribes war band if you have have members like that. They might be able to contribute important information to your bands projects you other wise would have to go outside the tribe for. Think CPA’s, bookkeeping, tax professionals, lawyers, engineers etc.

A rising tide lifts all ships

Pooling your resources with your tribe isn’t just for paying the bills, taking shifts in the garden or with the kids for schooling. Get your entrepreneurs together, brainstorm, come up with products, content idea, business ideas, figure out how you can help each others business and where you can collaborate.

Have extra eggs? Sell them, same goes for vegetables, or even ornamental plants your homestead might be growing. Let the kids work the stand instead of a lemonade stand. Or maybe you have a digital marketer, let him market your other businesses online. Or maybe you have content creators, Help them get content created or find ways that they can collaborate. Cross market each other products in each others store, digital or brick and mortar. This is how wealthy families got wealthy. They knew the whole family had to be participating and it couldn’t hurt them but only help them as a whole to help everyone get prospering. In your case your tribe might not be family exclusive but the concept is the same.

Precautions

Remember the overall goal of bettering your tribe, and don’t let it ruin your relationships. If something is not going to work let it go and move on to the next project. Offer opinions when asked and when its in your wheel house, but don;t try to tell others how to run their projects. Golden rule applies within your tribe. In fact its the only place that its still safe to abide by it.

Just like doing business with anyone outside the tribe, talk to an expert on structures, laws, regulations, taxes etc. and make sure everyone is on the same page when it come to goals and expectations. If you take care of this up front, it will save you lots of headaches later on. If they are both tribe members and in your war band it should be because you know them and they are hard workers and business minded. This is already two big hurtles that cause problems but that does not mean that there is not going to be head bumping. It is inevitable whether your working with friends family or strangers.

Its not that complicated

This can all be as simple as just knowing what everyone is doing so that you can refer people to them as the opportunity arrises or seeing if any tribe members need a job before hiring outside. Only in recent times has it been deemed immoral but society to help those you know when it comes to business or job opportunities and most cultures still will take care of their own before outsiders. As long as they are qualified and nothing is illegal then why would you hire someone you don’t know over some one you do or is vouched for by someone you know.

Now get out there and bring home that plunder for your tribe.

Becoming a barbarian

Looking back I have been a barbarian from birth, at least in part. Up until my parents divorce I was home schooled and lived rurally, after that I had to start my journey through the system from the second grade on but I never truly fit it, though I was good at blending in. Never the outcast but never the popular kid, I was never big on having a bunch of sub par friends and the things that were important to the kids around me were never important to me. Now I realize that those of us that were in this position in school were naturally though unconsciously fighting the programming.

I didn’t care about dances, or school politics, events, or grades. What I wanted to learn was either dismissed as false, not taught in schools to begin with, or was systematically being removed from the curriculum. Zero tolerance for fighting was being rolled out and you were no longer allowed to defend your self. Cell phones were just becoming smart at the end of my high school career and people were still able to be social in person with out some digital interface. Things you sometimes don’t pay attention to or understand when your in them but click all at once later in life when your looking back on it. It was the pivot point for the education system the tail end of what could be considered a normal educational experience, at least compared to now.

Becoming a barbarian

This continued after high school, While everyone prioritized drinking and partying, or SATs and college, depending on the person, I prioritized fitness, and practical education. I went straight to EMT school and joined a fire department as a volunteer while I was getting a tattoo removed that was to low on my arm so that I could join the military. The rules kept changing and I ultimately just stayed at the fire department and went for law enforcement when I became the right age.

While I was at the Fire department the majority of the other guys at least cared about fitness but they were all still overly obsessed with sports and other trappings of the system that I couldn’t care less about. So just like high school I was never fully in the group. Just like school I always had a couple people I could call friends at any one time that did have some similar interests. Even then I knew a lot of people and could get along with most groups, but I was never really a part of any of them.

This was unique position to be in. Many feel comfortable talking to you or around you and forget to mind their tongue. They will talk shit or gossip like they would normally but you get to see all sides. A will talk to C behind B’s back and then talk shit about C to D. You get a front row seat to how fake and disloyal 99 percent of the population is. This is hard lesson learned at a young age but a valuable one as you get older.

Loyalty is a very rare commodity

This continued through my adult life and while most people would call that a loss, I do not. It is why it was made blatantly obvious to me that the “brotherhood” at my fire department was a bull shit. The same lesson and learned the same way that learned at the police department as well. Though the police department was worse. The fire department at least showed up with lip service when some one died or was killed. At the police department, there was a line of duty death shortly before I arrived. One detective was trying to do something nice for the kids that he left behind and the other officers couldn’t be bothered to help out with either their time or some money.

Most people classify people as friends that have no business being called that. They do this out of a superficial desire/need to be liked and included. I am not saying that I don’t have that need too though I am not going to change who I am at my core just to be part of some group. I would rather be on my own than around fake people.

Moving on

Once I Turned 21 I left the fire department, and never heard from any of them again. I went to police academy and got my biggest taste of pseudo brotherhood I had experienced. The whole class clicked and meshed extremely fast and it was a great year. I then graduated and moved across the country for a job. Never to hear from most of them again despite reaching out. Hence pseudo brotherhood, though there was two that did keep in touch and one I have mentioned before who is still in law enforcement. The other Like me is not. They are two of the few people I call friends.

My time in law enforcement was short

It was rough start from the jump, I showed up day one and no one that needed to know knew I was coming. They had no gear for me not training officer for me nothing. They didn’t know what version of the computer system I would end up using so I had to learn two of everything in a shortened amount of time. Before even getting assigned to a trainer.

My first field training officer was on the way out, over weight, sloppy, hadn’t upgraded his uniform in 10 years, of course I didn’t even have one yet at this point. He slept in the passenger seat more nights then he was awake and I ultimately didn’t learn anything. Then came phase two where I was supposed to know everything and didn’t as well as some of my academy training not meshing with the new department mainly arrest control (handcuffing techniques) yet no one was willing to teach me how their department Wanted it.

It was around this stage that my health problems cropped up and I was forced to resign. Though that would be a saving grace later. After the department tv shows, and multiple scandals hitting the department, I was glad to have dodged the bullet.

Healthcare

The end of my short law enforcement carrier was the mark of the beginning of learning about the health care system. I was told I had an auto immune disease that was causing issues that needed surgery. So I had the initial surgery, and then was told I needed to go to a specialist to fix auto immune issue before they could do the second surgery. The specialist told me I needed to have the second surgery before I could Fix the Immune issue.

This last 18 months back and forth when the second surgery was supposed to have been done no more than 3 months later. After which time I found my Functional MD who changed my diet for 6 months reversed the actual issue which was not the issue the hospitals said I had.

I went to a new hospital to get the second surgery done and their testing showed that I had none of the issues the original hospital said that I did. In fact I later learned the original hospital gave test prep advice that made the situation appear worse then It was on testing results. This was the point that I swore off the medical system, at least in respect to general health and minor illness/ injury. Major trauma is the only thing that the medical system seems to do well.

Then came 2019

We all know what happened then, This was a defining time where I was thrown into becoming a barbarian. I was out cast by most of my so called family. Though I cannot look at it completely in a bad light. I showed who my true family was, I know understand the rest were only relatives. I found many of the “light bulb moment” books and individuals that have been game changers for me. This time shaped my current views of law enforcement, and did not help my views of the medical system. It revitalized my interest in homesteading and entrepreneurship out of a feeling of need and not just desire and It brought me back more fully to spirituality.

Though I currently find my self in a kind of purgatory. Stuck in progress waiting for things out side of my control to fall into place. My plans and path for the future are more refined and and inline then I think they have ever been. This is where you find this writing, at the calm before the storm. Hopefully you will come along for the ride and learn with me as we go.

Barbarian Spirituality

I was raised Lutheran but it never felt right for me. I rarely went to church unless back east with my grandparents but even then it felt like it was just missing something for me. Like many society and the system pushed me into a state cynicism toward Christianity specifically but spirituality as whole. This went on for years until recently when I felt a pull back to spirituality. Though not back to the Lutheran church.

Now. The Empire today likes to push you towards no religion or spirituality if it can. This is because it makes it easier to assimilate into the system as one of its cogs, if your not going to grind gears with the other drones over religion. Second only to that it wants you into one the typical religions that doesn’t offer any disruptions to their systems while it deteriorates them into just another marketing demographic to make money off of. Just look at the mega churches these days for an example.

Now if you look in the liberty community or masculinity sphere of social media today your going to get the impression that in order to be a man you need to be christian. But that is not the case, there is no one set path to spirituality, and no one means you are a man and other that you are not. No one knows if one religion is right or wrong until you die. No one can know for sure any other way.

I am not going to go into my specific religion/spiritual practice because really it doesn’t matter its a personal choice and preference. However I do believe every man needs a spiritual practice of some kind in his life. It can give a man someone to talk to when there is no one else, it can give a man confidence, or just some needed reassurance in a very dark and turbulent world.

Now that does not necessarily mean a man needs religion. Those things are two different concepts In my opinion, they do relate to one another, but you can be spiritual without being religious. Religion implies dogmas and a set structure that you must adhere to. Now there is nothing wrong with that, some men need that structure in their life. Its the same reason that some men thrive in environments like the military, university, or prison for that matter. But that also makes you vulnerable to deception and control From those who form and hand down that structure. And lets be fair that is exactly what religions have been for through out time. For good and for bad, they have been control systems, and many evils have been done through the centuries in the name of one religion or the other.

You also need to remember that all regions were made by man. Men had to physically write or transcribe the holy books no matter what the source material came from, and in many cases man edited the holy books. For instance the King James Bible that many people keep as THE Bible. Is called the King James Bible because it is the Bible that King James AUTHORIZED for the peasants to own and read. Now does this mean that he removed or changed info or section of it? no, but It is a red flag that he may have and many religions scholars who have compared the King James to older versions have testified to that fact.

This does not mean that what these holy books teach and talk about is wrong or inaccurate, but the religion it self and the books were made by a human being that is capable of fault and/or corruption, and therefor is a something you need to consider. You only need to look at modern religions themself as proof of that. How many forms of christianity are their? It has changed and split multiple times over the centuries as culture changes and today barely resembles anything I remember it as in my childhood.

What does this all mean?

Find and follow the religion or practice that speaks to you. You will often feel pulled to one or another or one may present it self at the moment you truly need it. Some will require more of you than others and some will make you sacrifice more than others, mentally, spiritually and sometimes physically. If you have no idea where to start, then start with your culture and heritage, but remember to keep an open mind toward other faiths as well.

  • Has your culture historically followed one practice or another?
  • How about your family/bloodline specifically?
  • What are faiths of people you know?  It can sometimes help to know people in the faith when you enter it. Start there and see what it turns up.

You want to make sure that your values and code if you have already developed them match or at least mesh with your spiritualities values, or vice versa if you have your spiritual values and are working on your code. Other wise you will always be conflicted and it will hinder you ability to make decisions, and move forward.

If family is important to you then your spiritual practice should emphasis family or at least not hinder it. If your trying to build wealth then your religion shouldn’t always be telling you that money is evil as a couple examples. This could simply be difference between churches of the same faith as well as difference between faiths.

Keep in mind your spiritual practice is meant to better yourself, protect you, bring you a more full life. Not take anything from someone else, so remember these principles when your evaluating spiritual paths or even just deciding between churches or sects, If they go against these principles or require that you violate them against someone else, than you should consider another option.

1 – All people are created equal.

2- All people have individual rights.

3 – All interactions between people should be voluntary

No one has the right….

1 – To harm you.

2- To threaten you,

3- To steal from you.

4- To violate your rights

Nothing says that you cannot give up any of these rights that follow in order to adhere to the faiths code or be part of the organization if you want to but the organization should not call on you to force others to make the same decisions. All should be voluntary.

Everyone has…

1 – The right to liberty – We can do what we want, as long as we do not

violate the rights of others.

2 – The right to self-defense – We can defend ourselves, our property,

and our individual rights,

3- The right to own and carry weapons – So we have the ability to

defend ourselves, our property, and our rights.

4- The right to self-ownership – We own ourselves. No one can claim

even partial ownership over you without violating your rights,

5- The right to free speech – We can communicate our opinions and

ideas without fear of government retaliation or censorship.

6- The right to privacy – No one has the right to violate our privacy.

Any law that violates our rights is null and void. Anyone that violates

our rights is a criminal.

As a final note

Always trust your gut if something feels off to you. It could be small it could be big but if something feels wrong then it probably is And you may want to keep some distance. True cults and extremest groups are dangerous and you don’t want to get tied up with them or what they bring with them.

Barbarians in Business and career

Just about every piece of career, business  and financial advice that you have been given is either wrong or meant for times of more economic stability. The days of being able to support your family on a single income working for someone else are long sense past. Beyond that working for someone else as your sole form of income makes you incredibly vulnerable. It also practically guarantees you will never be able to get your self to a level of freedom where you can enjoy life. So what are you to do? Bend the knee and reserve your self to a below average life? No you be come a barbarian. Step out of the Empires systems and learn to make money for your self.

You’re nothing but a pawn and will remain a pawn until you play

~Mr. Freeman

Many of you reading this already understand that money is not the end goal, freedom is the end goal, money is the tool Used to achieve it. So for those that know that already this will not be news but for those that don’t you also need to understand that you have been lied to and programed for most of your life to think about money in a way that will keep you from achieving much success in acquiring it. So under this, money or wealth it self is not evil though how it is used can be. Money tends to act like a being, it tends to go where it is appreciated and loved and avoids those who misuse, mistreat and generally despise it. So value it, treat it well, and be thankful for it.

Law of abundance

The law of abundance applies to money just like it does anything else. The way money is viewed by the majority of the population is from a place of scarcity. That there is not enough to go around and that it is not acquirable. This is hard to overcome understandably for some when you are living paycheck to paycheck or worse, but if you don’t stop thinking that there is not enough money out there or that you will never be able to get any of it you will make that true. You need to stop thinking about how you have no money, and start thinking “there is so much money out there how do I get some.”

Start small, you have to crawl before you can walk

You need to learn about finances because you were not taught it in school. You need to learn about budgets, taxes, banking, business and so on. No you don’t need to go to college for any of this. College business knowledge is out of date at best or intentionally misleading at worst.

Now this part is where you learn about where and how you have to play the Empire and its governments games. No matter what you will have to interact with the Empire with certain points in life and this is one of them or increase your chances of going to prison.

  • Personal finances And Tax laws. Without a working knowledge of personal finances and tax laws before you get going your gonna run right into a wall. Its not going to be fun….at least not for most people but too bad. Welcome to doing stuff that is not fun in order to better your life. Learn about budgets, business banking, credit, interest rates, inflation, and the tax code. Many will just say hire a tax person or a financial manager and if you have money already thats an option but if your starting from scratch it is not. Also most people think tax person and go down to H&R block. But those are not tax people they are computer monkeys trained to punch numbers into a tax system. They are not paid enough to learn the tax code and know how to keep as much money in your own pocket as you legally can. No one is going to care more about your money and your taxes then yourself. So learn at least the basics so that you can at least check your tax persons work Until you have enough money to hire a good one

  • Understand opportunity cost. Learn what it is and always factor it in your decision making. In brief opportunity cost is where you have to calculate the cost of paying for something vs doing it yourself. For instance, lets say its lunch time and you need to eat. I takes you an hour to make a healthy meal for your self. Now lets say you make $60 dollars an hour doing what ever it is you do. If it cost less to buy meal prepped meals or have something delivered than it is better financial decision to pay for the meal and work for the hour it takes to get there. You then come out on top. Where as if you cooked your meal you would loose out on the $60 in income. Now in this instance you have to factor quality and healthiness of the food. Cause if all you can have delivered is fast food or cricket paste and you can make an organic grass fed steak, your probably better off cooking cause it may cost you $60 in lost money but it could make you have less chance of having to live in the medical system in your later years getting treatments for any number of things. Opportunity cost applies to any task in a business. Pay roll, packing, shipping, manufacturing etc. At some point it will be cheaper to pay someone to do it than it will be for you to do it your self. However at first get used to wearing many hats.

Research, Evaluate and Plan

Start by researching side hustles and current high in demand skills and see where the rabbit hole takes you. Take note of anything that resonates with you along the way. Side hustles that fit your personality, or skills that you already have, stuff like that.

Once you have done your research and started your foundation of knowledge you need to start evaluating. Use these to get you started.

  • What skills do you have? Are any of them marketable?
  • Do you have any hobbies? Can any of them be monetized?
  • What is your financial status? Whats your income and expenses?
  • Can you expenses be reduced? Do you have money saved?

Once you’ve done a good evaluation, you can start laying out your plan. start with what skills you have that are marketable that you could do freelance or what side hustles you would want to try. Don’t worry about narrowing it down to one, some may not work out or you might not find it as enjoyable than you thought. Once you have a game plan don’t tell anyone. Unless its a mentor that is helping you out, or a member of your family (by the Modern Barbarian definition). You have to be careful who you tell because at best most people wont understand your ambition or your goals and dreams and at worst they will discourage you or actively try and sabotage you. Even and in most case more likely you relatives.

Don’t feel guilty about blowing off clubs or parties to work on your goals, take care of your future self before Giving into your current self or acquaintances Your real friends and family will encourage you not try to drag you back down.

Now for a not strictly business related aspect but important to your financial future none the less. Marry well. This doesn’t mean marry rich, or even marry successful. It does mean find a spouse who understands you, has similar values, and is supportive. Someone who understand finances and that you are trying to sacrifice now for a better future. Some one who brings you peace and not more chaos. It is hard save money and build a business if your spouse wants to go out to dinner every night, or is constantly buying stuff. Now also make sure that you also return the favor When ever you can. This will make the long hours and tired days all the more bearable. If you cant find that right now don’t worry about it. Remember abundance, there is always another girl You will find the right one eventually.

Your Network

Your network is your net worth, A group of 5 disciplined men will out perform 100 undisciplined ones.

Now even those that don’t see networking as above, don’t know how to do it effectively. They think its going to a conference and throwing business cards at people or accumulating friends on linked in or facebook. But networks are not measured by their size but their quality and their connections. You have to actually make connections, spend time with people get to know each other. Business relationships are no different than any other relationships. This is where the true benefit of ivy league… we will call it “education” lies. Its not in the teachers or the knowledge because all the knowledge is out there in books and online As well as better more up to date information. No the true benefit and it could be argued the only benefit is the people that you gain access to.

The average person does not understand networking So trying to network with the average person will yield no results. First off those who don’t understand network or take the time or put in the effort to network say things like “He only got the job because he knows someone.” Well thats the point. It is a safer bet for anyone to do business/ hire someone that they know and have experience with than it is to gamble and someone they don’t no matter what their resume looks like. If they know the person and know that they will do the job then its higher reward to lower risk than hiring someone they don’t know who might do the job.

This is common sense and how the world works. Only recently has building human relations ships that benefit both parties become a bad thing.

Stop being lazy and bitching about it and start putting in the work and doing it.

Multiple stream of incomes

The more streams you have the better off you will be because if one fails then you have backups.

Start with what you have, your current skills or hobbies that you can monetize or free lance, you should know this from your planing phase.

If you already have some money you can look at buying or investing in already running businesses or business with some start up costs Like vending machines or ATMs stuff like that.

If you are starting from scratch and have no skills you can do what I did to start and am still doing, flipping. You can start at home with extra and unused items that can also help you adopt a more minimization or intentional life style by shedding the extra “weight”. It also allows you to work on skills that will help you every where else. Writing the ads and postings requires – sales techniques and copy writing, Making the sale may require negotiation skills etc.

Once you run out of stuff around the house you can cruise the free sections of craigslist or facebook looking for stuff that has value. Some people even turn flipping into their full time job by starting free junk collection companies. They collect the “junk” or stuff that people want gone and refurbish it and sell it.

You can flip to build capital for other ventures or simply while work on learning other skills that you can do freelance. I starting flipping to build capital to start day trading But that is not a skill for most people as a tarting point it takes a lot of time discipline and emotional control and ability to take risk. If you are not that person yet or at the level you can take some risk don’t start down that path.

Investing, asset accumulation

Once you have multiple income streams or your finances have improved in general you can start looking at investing long term, and in addition larger money generating assets Such as turn key business like car washes and laundry mats or real estate rentals etc.

Everyone is starting to see what inflation is doing so Once you start generating enough income you also want to look at hedge against inflation. These are assets that don’t typically loose value. The main stay for this through out history has been precious metals. Gold and silver being the obvious and most easily done. Bitcoin and crypto currencies are also entering into this realm but that is not my area of expertise. I wouldn’t personally hold them as inflation hedges but i have seen them work great for others in investing and trading But i have no personal experience in that matter. For precious metals you have to decide if you want to personally hold physical metals or certificates for metals on deposit. They have their pros and cons as does everything but in short. Deposited gold, or gold on trading exchanges lets you benefit from the gold but not have to secure it your self. While holding it physically means it is actually yours And you control it however you cannot hold/own physical gold in a retirement account from what i understand it has to be kept a gold depository for regulatory reasons.

Now If you have a decent paying job and it fulfills you and you enjoy it, then you are lucky most don’t have that. Nothing says that you have to leave that job to do any of this. In fact you probably shouldn’t. As long as you don’t want to jump off a bridge every time you go to work then why give up another stream of income. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t develop other businesses, assets, and investments on the side. Because one day you might get laid off, or they may make you try to do something you don’t want to do, or try to make you compromise your principles for the job. When this happens you want to be able to say Fuck You! and be able to walk away. If you don’t have anything else built than you cant do this. See this clip from the gambler for more.

The career path

I would argue the time of careers is over and done with. The time where you can enter at the bottom and work your way up and be groomed for the top doesn’t happen anymore out side of family businesses. But if you want to go the employee route or need to in the short term here is some things that can help you as well as benefit you in your side ventures as well.

General skills

  • Learn project management, Everything is a project. This another skill that has a lot of information on the internet and when you have the spare change Consider investing in certification, this is a wildly applicable skill that any employer will benefit from.
  • Learn to compartmentalize, even at a job you love some things wont be fun, work is work some times but you have to be able to do it. Don’t let your shit work day effect your time with you family keep it separate at least until an appropriate time you can decompress and talk with the spouse or have a drink with the boys what ever your process may be.
  • Learn to set boundaries with your employer, Generally speaking unless your working for a small business or a family run business, they probably don’t see you as anything more than a number. If you not in an on call job like an ER nurse or Fire department, don’t work when your not on the clock. Salary pay has some gray area here but if its not specifically mentions in the job requirements do your best not to work unless you are at work. 1 you will work your self to death or to your death bed and wonder where your life went, and 2 you devalue your worth when you do. For instance
  • Your paid 100k year. Thats 1900 a week before taxes, and for a 40hr week that is 48 dollars an hour. But if you are constantly working an extra 2 hours a week at home, even if its just checking email, not only is that 2 hours away from your family or working on your own goals that translates to an extra 10 hours a week which drops your hourly rate to 38 dollars and hour. Your doing 25% more work for the same amount of pay.
  • This is the part people find hard when they are trying to climb the ladder. You want to do more to show initiative but many managers and bosses will take advantage of that so make sure you are making progress and if you are not walk away.
  • If you want to climb the ladder, do your best not to get trapped in specialist roles like legal, or HR. It will limit your promotional abilities to a certain level. Hard to go past Head of HR if all you can do is HR. Get as much varied experience as you can even if you are necessarily getting paid for it. You never know what you’ll need to get promoted one day or if your love of what your doing now will one day run out And you want to change things up. It will stuck starting from scratch if you didn’t branch out earlier.
  • Gain international experience, depending on what you want to do this may not be available or necessary but if the option presents it self and you have the ability jump on it.
  • If your job doesn’t offer the ability to branch out at all or gain additional experience you may consider looking for new jobs or volunteering with other organizations.

General warnings

  • Job titles are a trap, those titles or jobs that they represent may mean nothing in 10 years or even two. Experience is more important, “Launching an e-commerce store” or managing a team of 30 employees is vastly more impressive than “Head CD Technician”
    • Don’t sacrifice your mental and physical health for a job.

This means more than “do not be fat, but it also means that too. People who are overweight are paid less than those who aren’t… As for a wider definition of health, the evidence that regular physical activity improves mental and emotional performance is overwhelming. Additionally, Americans make up only 5 percent of the planets population but consume more than half of all pharmaceuticals. This rises to 80 percent when it comes to prescription painkillers. Be healthy so you do not need to be stoned at work. That alone will leapfrog you over most of the competition.
      ~Gordon White

  • Don’t complain about your boss to anyone, and don’t participate in office politics but understand what is going on. Don’t burn bridges unnecessarily by gossiping with everyone stay neutral until you have no other choice. If you want to complain about people, or If you need to talk about them, do it to your spouse or a therapist.

Conclusion – Finding balance

As you probably noticed some of the advice somewhat contradicts it self and thats because that is life. You have to figure out your priorities and what is important. Are you young and have no family? You can put in the extra hours If you want. Do you want to climb the ladder at a job instead of going your own thats fine then you have to play the game. Do you want to build your own empire? Then your gonna have to put in the extra hours and work, this might mean you miss out on some family events once in a while, at least at first. This is why the Empires pushes for you to waist your younger years partying And plunging your self into student debt. It wastes your younger years, when you have the energy, opportunity, and the ability to put in those extra hours, gain that experience and build the foundations for those empires. Before you do have families, and other responsibilities that you then have to juggle.

What is a Modern Barbarian

Most of the “culture” these days is just marketing, and marketing at large is driven by the Empire. When you look around and look at society and its culture you have to understand that very little of it actually occurred or changed naturally. Human beings typically, are easy to influence and manipulate and because of that society is easy to manipulate and influence, if you have enough money or power. There is usually an agenda behind the shifts and trends in culture and society. Very often this agenda is to make someone alot of money or someone more power. For a crash course in what I am talking about check out this video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIK-q6JoOeU

What is the empire?

The Empire or “The Empire of Nothing” is a term coined by Jack Donovan, who describes it as “a collection of self interested and self perpetuating groups including the banking institutions, military, governments, unions, special interests groups, the entertainment industry, corporations, the media…” and so on.

There is no one head of the Empire, its not one single all encompassing organization. Its a loose alliance between many smaller and larger organizations. These organizations and the people that own and run them all work to further their own and sometimes combined interests and agendas whatever they may be. You only need to look as far as any current hot button topic to see smaller examples of this in action But for the Empire as a whole the agenda typically is to facilitate global trade, aka make a lot of money.

We will cover this in more depth in a future article but for now under stand that the Empire pushes marketing to influence society. Pushing mainly a wildly unhealthy, both mentally and physically, spiritual-less, materialistic, dependent, mass consumer culture for the basic agenda to make money for the Empire. This marketing takes the form of not only ads, but social movements in order to manipulate the culture.

So! What is a barbarian

Historically A barbarian, is a member of a people who are not part of one of the ancient ‘great nations’ such as the Greek or Roman Empires. The designation is usually applied as a generalization based on a popular stereotype such as “they practices witchcraft” or “they eat children”and used in a derogatory manner to promote these mental images in the populace. This was done to make them seem less than human for one of many agendas usually war propaganda despite the fact that generally “barbarians” were just groups of people different from the Empire of the time that didn’t want to join the empire and wanted to be left alone.

In modern times, as boarders seem to become more and more blurred through social media and the hyper connected nature of the internet. Culture doesn’t stop at boarders or governmental boundaries any more. The Empire’s culture and societal norm transcend them, If you doubt this just look at how many people riot in Europe for someone killed by the police in America or why you can find a McDonalds in most even slightly developed countries, or why people all over the world do the same Tik Tok trends. The term is still used to demean anything that goes against the empires culture, used as a synonym, for evil, disgusting, criminal, etcetera. Even if those they describe as barbarians are none of those things thats the image that pops into everyones mind allowing the Empire to justifying guilting its citizen sheep into doing what it wants them to.

With all of that in mind though, the definition of barbarian still holds true, someone out side or not fully integrated into the Empire. Someone who looks around them today and doesn’t like what they see coming from the Empires so-called civilization and decides to go another way and go against Its “culture.” Someone who lives their life as independent of the Empire and its various systems as possible. Someone who lives outside of its culture or ways of thinking. They think for themselves and makes their own decisions on how to live their life.

Now what is a modern barbarian?

Like stated above, someone out side or not fully integrated into the Empire, or its culture.

The Empire wants its citizens unhealthy, and dependent, the modern barbarian strives to live their life as independent of the Empire and its various systems as possible. Taking responsibility for their own life whether thats their health, wealth or safety. Learning to use the aspects of the Empire of Nothing that is beneficial and leaving the rest.

They want them to only trust the media? The barbarian will think for themselves, do their own research and makes their own decisions.

The Empire wants its men alone and separated? The barbarians will build their own brotherhoods of like minded men.

The Empire wants everyone sleeping around promoting promiscuity in both sexes the barbarians choose to build families and marriages.

They know history and embrace tradition instead of letting it be torn down and destroyed. The modern barbarian knows that history is there to teach us not only the good to do but the bad to avoid In the future.

What does this look like in practice?

This could mean switching from a main stream Allopathic MD to a Functional Medicine MD.

It could be stopping eating manufactured food and go back to eating natural and organic foods.

It could be running your own business, starting a side hustle, learning to day trade, anything to create multiple streams of income.

It could be intentional communities where you share the above responsibilities with other people or simply bringing your family friends and brothers together to do the same thing.

It could be all of these things or only some of them. Its up to you, your brotherhood and your tribe And how you want to achieve your freedom and independence.

So what are you going to do stay a citizen sheep of The Empire of Nothing? Or step out into the wild, be free and Become a modern barbarian?

The Empires Masculinity

Masculinity is mainly about what men want from each other, its is about being a man within a group of men. Women believe they can improve men, they think they can change eons of men’s evolution by redefining masculinity to make it about what women think they want from men. Men want women to want them, this is obvious, but this approval isn’t the only approval men look for.

One of the secrets to being a man is never allowing the fiercest part of you to be tamed

When men behave savagely only men will understand

~ Michael Kurchina

Men compete against each other within a group for status and as a way to seek each others approval. This is part of the the crucible that all boys must under go to become a man. This crucible must be undergone whether a boy likes it or not. Unfortunately with the death of tribes, and brotherhoods, boys have few if any guides or traditions to explain this to them.

Often times it goes forgotten or rejected completely. Essentially forfeiting their place as men and accepting defeat before they even get started. They remain in a state of perpetual boyhood that is becoming increasingly obvious as you look around society.

Some will reward and encourage this forfeiture. Playkating the boys as being courageous for doing so, these people are weak. They despise masculinity and anyone who demonstrates it. They are usually men who failed or forfeited their crucible or are manipulators working behind the curtain who prefer men to be passive to further their own agendas.

Many these days argue that masculinity is no longer or never was necessary. These people are really saying that your masculinity is not necessary, to THEM. That your masculinity is an inconvenience or threatens them or their agendas in some way. They are saying that you should make an effort to limit your own potential so that they can realize their potential instead.

The Empire and our so called leaders have created a world in spite of men. A world that refuses to accept who men are despite their war cries of inclusiveness and acceptance of everyone. They push men to change “for the better”  by abandoning their “antiquated” ways. They push them to conform to the new ways put forth by The Empire and offer nothing in return.

All Empire has to offer is rampant materialism with nothing of any substance or value. Nothing Spiritual, less and less freedom, nothing that nurtures the soul and by all margins, far less than our fathers and men of past generations was offered.

If you give your consent and confine yourself to this spiritual prison willingly, you deserve the tiny, wasted life of dishonor and servitude that your new owners will assign you.

This end of men, this decline of males this new bonobo masturbation society of peace and plenty-this no mans land- is not inevitable. It will require the tacit or expressed consent of billions of men. Like every civilization, it must be built on the backs of men, and most of them must agree to abide by and enforce its laws. You cant have prisons without prison guards and you cant have security without some kind of police. Men will have to get up in the morning and go to their clerking jobs and smile and consume and continue to amuse themselves according to regulation. Civilization requires a social contract and men have to keep up their end of the bargin for it to work. This future can only happen if men help create it.

What kind of barbarian are you?

You have to know yourself, know your beliefs, what you are going to stand for, die for, and what you are willing to let slide. If you do not know these things and have your lines drawn in the sand then you will get forced and manipulated into doing things that you don’t want to do. You will forever be at the mercy of the Empire, it’s systems and whatever way public opinion is flowing. You won’t be a barbarian you will be a slave to whatever the hip new fad or opinion is and effectively become a low tier character in your own story rather than the main character you are meant to be.

“You are not your job. You’re not how much money you have in the bank. You’re not the car you drive. You’re not the contents of your wallet. You’re not your fucking khakis.
~Tyler Durden

The process

Figuring this out will take some time. I know it’s, I have been at it a better part of a couple of years and I am still at it, but you can figure out the basics. You are going to go back and forth on some things and realize the world is not black and white and some things just have no good answers or solutions.

Ideally in order to accomplish this you would spend a week or more cut off from the rest of the world, no technology, no internet, no substances, coffee, weed, drugs etc. Cutting your self off from all the things that alter your mind, program you subconscious and effect your judgment. Because if someone is constantly telling you what you are or who you are or how you are supposed to act you will never be able to get a clear enough head to figure out for your self who you truly are.

Now if you have the ability, there are many retreats out there for this sort of thing, but if you can’t, at least get a notebook and over a weekend turn your phone off, turn off your internet, TV, etc. Just try to be alone and start thinking about who you are. Write down what ever comes.

Here are some prompts to get you thinking

(First write down the answers to these question)
1.    What is your favorite part of each day?
2.    What are  the three most important things in your everyday life?
3.    Where would  your ideal vacation destination be?
4.    What is your favorite hobby? Can you do more of it?
5.    Where do you get your daily news stories and current affairs updates from?
6.    Do they enhance or damage your daily productivity?
7.    What do you still invest time in that no longer benefits you?
8.    What is your personal definition of success?
9.    How will you know when you have achieved success?
10.    Write down what you want to have achieved in the next 3 months, 6 months and 12 months.
11.    What does love mean to you?
12.    Do you have any religious/spiritual beliefs? What are they?
13.    Why Do you have these beliefs?

Have you been programmed?

14. Do you have an emotional response and don’t know why
15.Are you angry at a person or about a topic but you can’t articulate why or can’t speak intelligently about it?
(If you answered yes to either of those then you don’t have a belief, You have been programmed)

Your personal relationships

Now take look at your personal relationships and figure out which ones you would help if they needed it, which you would lone money too, which you would fight for, now how about who you would die for. Now look at it the other way and be honest with yourself. Who mistreats you, who treats you well. What relationships do you have that both benefit you and the other person, who do you trust and who don’t you? This could be family, friends, co workers, bosses, any relationship in your life.

If you can’t look at this in an unbiased manner, and most people can’t, find a few people whose opinion you trust and ask them about the other people in your life. However make sure you do this one at a time and separately, then compare notes from each person by your self. Doing this will allow you to sift through any personal bias on their side. If you talk to 5 close friends and they all tell you someone is bad for you then you might want to look at that relationship. Now if Tom says Jimmy is a horrible person and Jimmy says Tom is a horrible person but no one else has a judgment then those two might not like each other but that doesn’t mean that either of them are toxic. Use YOUR best judgment.

Testing these relationships

You can also ask the people in your life for help with something, do they help you, or blow you off? You will need to do this multiple times to make sure it really wasn’t something that they couldn’t help with or that timing was really bad on their end whatever the excuse may have been. You can also simply drop of the map for a few days, Don’t text, call, or Facebook anyone and see who checks in on you. Keep in mind this test can really be an eye opener so if you are not ready for the answers on this one don’t ask the question. If through these process you find the people do check in on you, they do drop what they are doing to help you out, focus more of your time on those relationships.

A truly unbiased assessment of your personal relationships may be quite depressing. Many men if they are honest with themselves have few if any people in their life that they could actually depend on in a bad situation or even simply borrow a small amount of cash. Some have none at all and are entirely dependent the government programs, systems and corporations of the Empire. This is the way the Empire works and they like it that way.

This process however is only the beginning

From now on look at any situation that presents itself to you and find out how YOU feel about them. Not how the media or your wife or your parents tell you to think about it. If something interests you research it, if something doesn’t sound right, research it. If you have an opinion about any topic and you haven’t researched it thoroughly and looked at both sides, then you nothing more than a useful idiot for one side of the argument. If you do not know the definition of that term I recommend you look it up.
